The M&R Grade 11s started the season off with a rocky beginning, but their turnaround was nothing short of remarkable. Initially, we thought that reaching a .500 record would be a solid achievement, but this team had bigger goals in mind. After dropping four straight games right out of the gate, they found their rhythm in December and January, going 6-6. Then, February arrived, and the team caught fire, winning 11 straight games. Their remarkable run included a stunning comeback from the 6th seed in the Grade 11/12 Senior MYBL division to capture the championship. Two of the three rounds were decided in the final possession, with key performances from veterans Omkar, Nathan, Lavin, Tayzsheon, Ethan, and sharpshooter Ayan. Vihass also played a crucial role, with big steals and setting up the final moments for victory. Dante La Marca hit some huge shots late in the semi-finals to help secure the win, and Quest grabbed some big rebounds in key moments to seal it all up. Aaron and Ethan Williams performed their roles when needed most, getting big minutes in the clutch and ensuring the game flow stayed on course.
In the Coalition League, the team dominated the competition late in the regular season, winning by over 30 points in both games against top divisional opponents. In the playoffs, they faced teams they had previously lost to back in November, including the Markham Storm and Scarborough Blues. Once again, the veterans—Omkar, Lavin, Zayan, Ethan, Saj, and Nathan—led the charge, along with new addition Ryan. Together, they secured four hard-fought victories. In one unforgettable game, Ryan delivered a monster performance, scoring 37 points and grabbing 18 rebounds—one of the best individual performances of the season in the first round of the playoffs, a 97-70 win.
In the finals, Zayan's hot shooting early was key, knocking down 4 huge 3-pointers, and Omkar's leadership and grit were on full display. His 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists helped M&R secure back-to-back league championships with a hard-fought victory over Team Truth, 60-50.
We are so proud of this team and what it became. It is a testament to the young men who left it all on the court, grinding until things came together and never looking back.
Great job boys!!!
